Rethinking FinanceAlternative voices for a new financial architecture

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) – in alliance with the Global Community Reinvestment Coalition (GCRC), including partner organizations and citizen leaders in the UK, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, issued a call for the G-20 to commit itself to the creation of a financial system that is worth saving.

Manifesto initiated by Asian Peasants’ Coalition, Bail out the People Movement, International League of Peoples’ Struggles, International Migrants Alliance, and RESIST! (International Peoples’ Campaign to Confront Crisis and War).

The construction of a new regional financial architecture calls for a resolute and strong inclusion of an environmental outlook. If the latter is absent or relegated to a merely testimonial and technical role, the procedures and problems of classical financial institutions – whose environmental and socioenvironmental negative effects have been widely documented – shall be certainly reproduced.

ITUC Statement to the United Nations Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development.

The United Nations is the only existing legitimate forum through which the financial crisis can be resolved. The UN can allow for strong democratic representation and involvement of all developing countries in achieving an effective transformation. The international trade union movement has called on the World Bank and IMF to use the opportunity of their spring meetings in Washington to accelerate efforts to stem the global collapse in employment and economic prospects.

We, participants of the conference The World In Crisis: Economies and Policies for Global Transformation have discussed for three days in Prague the root causes, impacts and responses to the financial crises, economic meltdown, climate change, mismanagement of natural resource use, increasing inequity and volatile food and oil prices from the systemic perspective of the world's poor and vulnerable.
